A courageous film shot by Bernardo Bertolucci, based on a controversial book by Alberto Moravia. An administrator serving Mussolini’s regime (the legendary Jean-Louis Trintignant) along with his newly married wife (Stefania Sandrelli) goes to Paris on a secret mission.
